Lynn Andrews

Lynne lives in Chepachet, RI and has been painting all her life.  She has painted professionally for 30 years and is this year’s New England Traditions Convention artist.  Lynne was also the NET Convention artist in 2005 and a Delta Design Challenge second place winner in 2004. Designing and teaching keep Lynne busy. Book number six, A Father Christmas Book, is due out at NET. Her designs have been published in the “Decorative Painter”, “PaintWorks” and “Painting” magazine. ) This year Lynne  joined with Cynthia Ereckson to present “A Folk Art Fantasy” weekend of painting in Sturbridge, MA.  They will be offering another weekend next year on March 6 & 7, 2010. Lynne travel teaches at shops, conventions and chapters.  Lynne belongs to Yankee Heritage Tole and Little Rhody Rhembrandts chapters.

Lynne donated her “Twelve Days of Father Christmas” Santa, her own original design.

Cynthis Erekson

Cynthia lives in Boxford, MA and has owned the Quilted Acorn Shop with her partner, Sandi Schauer, for twenty years.  She started painting in the early 80’s and was designing and teaching by the late 80’s. Her  original designs called “Reflections of the Past” are regularly seen in “Paintworks”, ”Quick and Easy Painting” and “Create and Decorate” magazines. Cynthia is proud to be included in the new DAC Collection Book, The Painted Quilt. (see details on the website:  www.decorativeartscollection.org ) This year Cynthia joined with Lynne Andrews to present “A Folk Art Fantasy” weekend of painting in Sturbridge, MA.  It was so successful it will be offered again next year on March 6 & 7, 2010. She teaches at the Quilted Acorn Shop, at conventions and at chapters.  The Quilted Acorn shop is located in Newbury, MA.

Cynthia donated a reproduction tin lunch box decorated with her design of a New England winter seaside scene. It depicts an Olde Salt Santa arriving by boat to check on his workshop.

Gail Frigon, CDA

Gail lives in Attleboro, MA. Gail has been a self-taught artist for many years and attended her first formal class in Bauernamalerei (European Painting) thirty years ago.  Since then she has actively pursued her art by taking classes.  Her decorative painting background includes the following certifications:  Bob Ross Technique of Painting Landscapes, Bob Ross Technique of Painting Floral, Coulter Grisaille Technique and Donna Dewbury’s FolkArt One Stroke Technique.  Gail has taken many classes taught by Gary and Kathwren Jenkins and has certified Gold Level 3 in Floral.  Gail has also completed Heather Redick’s Fundamental Skills program and she has been receiving extensive training in portrait painting from Valerie Stewart.   Her designs have been in “Quick and Easy Painting” magazine (2/09 and 6/09)

Gail's donation is her design for a Holiday Sled. It is a large piece with holly and jingle bells.

Jane Hoffman (Gail Anderson design)

Jane lives in Hampton, CT and started painting in 1991 when she found a teacher at a craft show.  She will paint any style and any medium at least once, just to give it a try.  Jane doesn’t teach or design but paints every chance she gets.  She joined SDP and the Connecticut Society of Decorative Painters just in time to help with the first New England Traditions Convention and has volunteered in some way at every NET since.  This year she is the Raffle Chair. 

Jane painted a wooden sleigh with an adaptation of a Gail Anderson design.  The wood piece was donated by Linda McClure of Linda’s Daydream shop in Vernon, CT.

 

Grace Markauskas

Grace lives in Methuen, MA.  She began painting in 1995 and immediately fell in love with this new adventure. She has volunteered at every New England Traditions Conventions since the beginning.  At present she is the NET Assistant Chair.  In the past she was Co-chair of White Mountain Magic mini conference.  Grace belongs to White Mountain Decorative Painter’s Guild and Yankee Heritage Tole.  She teaches at chapter sponsored functions, at convention and she teaches two days a week at the Quilted Acorn shop. The Quilted Acorn shop is located in Newbury, MA.

Grace has donated a Russian Doll painted with her design called "O Holy Night". It is in shades of blue with silver trim.

 

Mary McLean, CDA

Mary lives in Norfolk, MA and has been painting as long as she can remember.  Her first toys were the pencils and papers her mother gave her to keep busy.  Mary earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts and her Masters in Art Education at college.  In 1991 she received her CDA from SDP.  At the present time she is on the Board of Directors of SDP.  She has been honored twice by having her designs on the cover of the “Decorative Painter” magazine.  Her designs have also been in all the painting magazines and she has authored six books.

Mary donated a Candle Box painted with her design of white poinsettias.  It holds a glass jar candle.

Laure Paillex

Laure lives in Buzzards Bay, MA.  Her home studio, Cranberry Painter Decorative Arts, is a charming antique farmhouse with salt water views of Cape Cod.  She has been teaching decorative painting for more than thirty-five years and has authored nine books, numerous pattern packets and video lessons.  Her work is regularly featured in decorative painting magazines and she has been licensed for the gift market.  Laure is a business member of SDP and a member of the Graphic Artists Guild.  She exhibits and teaches in the United States and internationally.  She continues to develop her skills through independent study, art courses and through association with other professional artists.

Laure’s donation is called “Noel”.  It is a tree-shaped silver wire basket with crystal beads topped by a wooden lid painted with poinsettias and evergreens

Donna Scully

Donna lives in Vernon, VT and has belonged to Berkshire Brushes and Capitolers.  She started painting in 1994 when a friend needed a ride to a painting class.  Before long she was teaching adult education at a local school.  She started to design in 1995 and her first book “Country Creek” was published in 2001.  Donna ‘s designs have been in many decorative painting magazines and she has a full line of pattern packets available on her website.  Donna says she loves to paint, loves to design but most importantly she loves to teach and laugh and she thinks the combination of all of that shows in her teaching style.  Her students tell her, her relaxed style is what keeps them coming back.

Donna donated her “Santa in the Woods” which was inspired by the country settings of Vermont.

Julie Talarski

Julie lives in Glastonbury, CT and has been painting since 1986.  She is a member of the Connecticut Society of Decorative Painters.  She has been on the New England Traditions Committee for 7 years and is currently Assistant NET Treasurer (again).

Julie’s donation is a large tin bowl painted with Julie’s original design of pears and holly. 

 

Karen Zemko

Karen lives in Salem, CT and is currently the Chair of New England Traditions.  She started dabbling in painting about 30 years ago but didn’t have any formal training.  Fifteen years ago she discovered SDP, painting magazines and conventions.  She joined White Mountain Decorative Painting Guild and then Connecticut Society of Decorative Painting.  Karen teaches out of her home, focusing on strokework for beginners and Rosemaling.  She believes stressing the basics of brush control for beginners is crucial no matter what area of painting they are interested in.  Her first big achievement was to receive Best of Show at the 2000 Woodstock Fair held in Woodstock, CT.  She has also won several blue ribbons at the NET Art Show.

Karen painted her design of Telemark Rosemaling on a large carved Santa donated by Viking Woodcrafts.
